It’s hard to be a military spouse and not truly ponder service and its impact. For me personally, I believe service starts with heartfelt perspective and the idea that it’s not all about me.
I’m confident the folks at the Warrior and Family Support Center (WFSC) live by this perspective. The day before the San Antonio Spouse Symposium, I joined MOAA’s President, VADM Ryan and members of the MOAA Staff at the WFSC on Fort Sam Houston to gift Stella & Dot jewelry. The WFSC offers a casual and friendly environment for Wounded Warriors and their family members as they journey through rehabilitation. I was moved by both the staff who wanted to give back to those whose service required sacrifice of a limb and pre-war life, and equally by the soldiers and their families who were focusing efforts on what was to be their new normal.
I’m encouraged when civilians recognize the service given by our military and their families. Through the Stella & Dot Gifting Campaign, everyday Americans were able to offer their gratitude to those service members and their families. Jessica Herrin, CEO and founder of Stella & Dot offered this quote to the attendees of the San Antonio Military Spouse Symposium: “1 Universe, 9 Planets, 204 Countries, 809 Islands, 7 Seas, and I had the privilege to meet you.” It truly was a privilege to meet so many who have given so much in service to our great Nation.
